Hawaii based leadership training

"Helping you achieve your goals via training, facilitation, and leadership development"

Our Approach

Our “local” approach to training, facilitation and leadership development is what sets us apart. It’s based on an understanding that here in Hawaii, true success is built on, not in spite of relationships. Being kama’aina (a child of the land), starting way back when my family first came to these islands three generations ago to work the plantations, my local values run deep as they have been shaped by generations of our unique island culture. Growing up in Hawai’i, I know that ours is a relationship-based culture where respect is key. Our islands is a place where “who you know and how you treat other people” is more important than any advanced degree, certification, or resume that I may have because here in Hawaii, locals don't care how much you know, unless they first know how much you care. Making time to “talk story,” not “making big head,” and the importance of leading with aloha are a few of the guiding principles that inform our local style approach. This local approach to training, facilitation and leadership development has blessed us to work repeatedly, over the years with some of Hawai’i’s best companies and leaders across our state.

Meeting Facilitation

Facilitate means to “make easy.” By serving as your meeting facilitator we make it easy for your team to collaboratively develop their vision statement, mission statement, guiding principles, strategic plans, identify and solve complex problems, and develop action plans to accomplish these endeavors. We do this by first conducting confidential pre-facilitation phone interviews with your opinion leaders to learn about their priorities, preferences and avoid potential stumbling blocks to a productive meeting. We create a safe environment by establishing rules and roles for each person in attendance, and then use experiential activities like: affinity charts, small group discussions, SWOT analysis, causation charts, and gallery walks, to develop master timelines and action plans in a collaborative environment so your group fully understands and buys into the strategic priorities that they helped to develop themselves.

Coaching

Our approach to coaching is not for the dysfunctional and unmotivated and is best suited for those leaders who want to make the move from good to great. The goal of our coaching sessions is to help you achieve your goals. Our coaching conversations are future focused and are intended to bring you closer to your desired future in a positive way. All of our coaching sessions are client driven, meaning you pick the topic at the start of every conversation. The reason being is that we believe that coaching isn’t telling, but rather an approach that helps you come up with your own best solutions by acting as your trusted thought partner and by us asking you effective coaching questions. The reason coaching questions work so well is that people, particularly leaders, don’t like to be told what to do and when they are, tend to forget, and are less invested in the idea because it was not their own. The truth is we all embrace and invest into our own ideas more than we do others. At the same time, an important role of a coach is to say what needs to be said. In particular, things no one else is willing to tell you. Please be aware that we practice a courageous coaching approach, so as needed will make you aware of potential blind spots, unseen consequences, and will hold you accountable to your action plans and goals.

Our approach to coaching is conversational in nature. Ideally the coachee will do 70% of the talking and rather than me “tell” you what to do, the coach’s role is to ask you the right questions that explore insights, consequences, action plans, and ultimately reach outcomes that lead you to your desired future. Most, if not all of our coaching sessions will be virtual or over the phone and usually focuses on one of the following 3P’s:

We will help you draw out your own best thinking by meeting with you for approximately 60-minutes, every 3-5 weeks (or as mutually agreed) for 7-sessions.
